Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS)
As of mid-March, 2021, a randomly selected representative sample of University of Ottawa students will be invited via email to complete the Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS).
If you receive this email, we encourage you to participate, as the feedback you provide in this online health survey will be used to improve the wellness initiatives, programs and services for uOttawa students. You may benefit by knowing that you have assisted in providing accurate information regarding health and wellness behaviours on our campus.
What is the CCWS?
The CCWS is a Canadian assessment tool for Canadian campuses. It is specifically designed to help Canadian post-secondary institutions better support student health and wellbeing. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
Questions on the CCWS survey cover the following topics:
- Mental health
- Student and academic experience
- Health service utilization
- Physical health
- Substance use
- Nutrition and food security
- Sexual health behaviour
The questions in the survey are from well-established surveys often used in Canadian populations. However, there is a potential that some questions focused on mental health may spark uncomfortable feelings. There are two questions related to suicide risk within the last year. The survey will include information on local mental health support and resources provided at uOttawa.
Is the survey confidential?
Your participation in the study is voluntary and the survey is completely confidential. Data will be analyzed by University of Ottawa employees and linked to some of uOttawa’s administrative data (e.g., year and program of study) to help us understand the results. Results of the survey will be reported in statistically aggregated form only, without identifying individual students. No part of your response to this survey will become part of your student record.
Why is it important that I fill out the survey?
The University of Ottawa has chosen to make mental health and wellness a priority. Your participation is important as it will provide crucial feedback about your experiences, and will help shape the programs, services and initiatives that support you and other students to succeed at uOttawa and beyond. It will also allow us to compare uOttawa students’ experiences with the experiences of students attending other post-secondary institutions.
In appreciation for participating, we will enter all students who participate in the survey into a draw for prizes (2 x $500 prizes for uOttawa tuition credit).
