Structure of the Faculty
During the school year, students will be asked to elect a certain number of representatives to the different decision-making bodies of the Faculty.

Faculty Council
Subject to approval by the Senate or the Board of Governors, the Faculty Council has the power to establish regulations for the purpose of administering the affairs of the Faculty.

It is the task of the council to determine the Faculty's priorities concerning the programs of studies.

The Faculty Council is composed of:
1. ex-officio members, that is, the dean, the associate dean - research, the associate dean - academic and secretary, the chairs of departments and the School of Social Work, and
the associate dean of the School of Psychology;
2. two regular professors from each department elected by
their peers;
3. one professor designated by the Department of History;
4. one professor designated by the Department of Geography;
5. one professor designated by the Department of Philosophy;
6. the director of each interdisciplinary program: Canadian studies, management and information systems and women's studies;
7. a number of student members equal to one third of the total number of members sitting on council. This includes two student members from each unit (only one student member from the School of Social Work) elected by their peers, and two other students from the Faculty of Social Sciences, elected at large by their peers; and
8. two support staff members: the chief administrative officer
of the Faculty and one support staff member elected by peers.

Council committees
To help the council in its work, the following standing committees have been established; the research committee and the undergraduate studies committee.
The latter committee is composed of an equal number of student members and Faculty members, representing their respective units. The council may also, on occasion, establish special committees.

Executive Committee
The members of the Executive Committee of the Faculty are:
1. the dean;
2. the associate dean - research;
3. the associate dean - academic and secretary of the Faculty;
4. the chairs of departments and the director of the School of Psychology who is also associate dean;
5. the director of the School of Social Work;
6. the administrative director of the Faculty;
7. the administrator of the undergraduate programs;
8. the marketing and communication officer;
9. one support staff member elected by peers; and
10. two student members of the Faculty Council, one from the graduate level and one from the undergraduate level, both elected by the Faculty Council.

The executive committee exercises all powers given to it by the Faculty Council. More specifically, it is responsible for co-ordinating the preparation, administration and control of the Faculty's budget, as well as elaborating administrative regulations necessary for the internal management of the Faculty.

Department councils and Council of the School of Social Work
Department councils and the Council of the School of Social Work are assemblies of full-time professors of the academic unit concerned, and a number of students equal to one third of the total of voting members of the council. The students registered in that department or school elect these student members.

Each council is responsible for the budgetary policies and necessary regulations for the internal management of the unit subject to the approval of the Faculty Council.

Council of the School of Psychology
The Council of the School of Psychology is composed of the following members:
1. ex-officio members: the associate dean and three program directors;
2. eight full-time professors of the School elected by their peers;
3. seven registered full-time students; three or four students from the graduate level elected by registered full-time graduate students, and three or four students from the undergraduate level elected by registered full-time undergraduate students.

The School Council formulates recommendations concerning the internal regulations of the School, its programs, its academic policies and its budget. The regulations are subject to the approval of the Faculty Council.

The executive committee is composed of the associate dean, the program directors, the director of the Centre for Psychological Services and three members of the School Council, one professor and two students.
