CENTRE FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS

To make it easier for new students to adapt to university life and studies - hence encourage academic success - the Faculty of Social Sciences has created the Centre for Academic Success to serve students in the Faculty of Social Sciences and in the Faculty of Arts. The purpose of the centre is to facilitate student integration, contribute to the intellectual growth of the students, and foster a greater sense of belonging.

Graduate students and highly motivated undergraduates run the centre and offer support to students on academic probation or in need of additional help. These qualified student mentors give weekly workshops on a variety of topics, such as time management, finding motivation, exam preparation and many others.

The centre is located at 110 University Street. Mentors can be reached at (613) 562-5800, ext. 1654.

INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES
Students of the Faculty have access to all the services offered by a modern university with respect to teaching and research: documentation centres, libraries, writing centre, language laboratories, computing centre, and other services.

Besides these facilities, students can benefit from the numerous private and public libraries and centres located in the national capital. These resources are considerable assets for any student interested in one of the disciplines of the Faculty.

WRITING CENTRE
The Writing Centre, located in Simard Hall, Room 0021, is open to all students and particularly to those registered in courses offered by the Department of English or the Département des lettres françaises.

The centre helps students improve their writing ability in English and French. It is equipped with numerous workstations, a large selection of software as well as reference books, handbooks and workbooks on English and French grammar and composition.

The graduate assistants working at the centre provide individual assistance to students and offer, by appointment, free tutoring on essay writing. The centre also gives free workshops on writing-related topics.

For more information, please call (613) 562-5800, ext. 1111 or visit the centre in Simard Hall, Room 0021.
