The following are general prerequisites for all ANT 3000-level courses: SOC 1101 and nine credits in Sociology and/or Anthropology. Any specific prerequisites are indicated at the end of each course description.

ANT2100 Physical Anthropology (3,0,0) 3 cr.
Comparative study of the human as a physical being: origins and evolution. The concept of race. Primate behaviour. Prehistoric cultures.

ANT2125 Social Anthropology (3,0,0) 3 cr.
Introduction to the scientific study of human ways of life. Anthropology and the social sciences. Analysis of cultural and social systems, kinship, politics, economics and religion. Cultural change.

ANT2500 Anthropologie physique et archéologie (3,0,0) 3 cr.
Étude comparative de l'humain comme être physique. Évolution. Races. Étude du comportement des primates. Cultures préhistoriques.

Le contexte historique dans lequel est né l'anthropologie sociale. Les grands courants de la recherche ethnologique. Étude des systèmes culturels et sociaux, de la parenté, de la politique, de l'économie et de la religion. Les changements culturels.

ANT3126 Native Peoples of the Americas (3,0,0) 3 cr.
Introduction to the study of the native peoples of the Americas, their social structure before and after contact with Western culture. Selected groups will be analysed in detail.
Prerequisites: SOC1101 and 9 credits in SOC/ANT.

Study of a selected topic about a specific region or country, such as the Arab world, East Asia, Africa, the Caribbean etc. Questions of development.
Prerequisites: 9 credits ANT or 51 university credits.

Analysis of economic systems in such societies as hunting and gathering, pastoral, horticultural and agricultural ones. Ecological factors which influence subsistence activities in human societies. Relations between economic and social systems.
Prerequisites: 9 credits ANT or 51 university credits. Also offered as SOC3731.

Introduction à l'étude des peuples autochtones des Amériques, leur situation avant et après leurs contacts avec la culture occidentale. Analyse plus détaillée de quelques groupes.
