Merit scholarships
At the end of each academic year, the faculty offers a limited number of merit scholarships to full-time students who have obtained the best results in the various programs of the faculty.
1. A merit scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to students of the Faculty of Arts who obtain an annual grade point average (AGPA) of 9.0 for at least 24 credits and who do not have a renewable admission scholarship from the University of Ottawa.
2. The other scholarships will be distributed as follows:
a) one scholarship for a department which has no students in the group described in paragraph 1;
b) one scholarship for students in interdisciplinary programs (Canadian studies, women's studies, medieval studies and second language teaching) if no student in an interdisciplinary program is in the group described in paragraph 1;
c) two scholarships for students of the general BA if no general BA student is in the group described in paragraph 1;
d) other scholarships for the best of the other students throughout the faculty, regardless of their program.

To be eligible for one of these scholarships, students must meet the following conditions:
• obtain, between September and April, a minimum of 24 credits which count in the calculation of their annual grade-point average (specific regulations apply to co-op programs). Excluded from this calculation are all courses which are not part of the program and courses taken at other universities (Carleton University, Saint Paul University and Dominican College excepted);
• minimum annual grade point average of 8.0 is required to obtain this scholarship. Students must register anew full-time in a BA program in the academic year immediately following receipt of the scholarship.
• re-register for full-time studies in an undergraduate program (at least 24 credits applying to their program) during the next academic year (September to April).
When the student's academic record is evaluated at the end of May:
• all final results for the courses for which the student is registered must be available (this excludes NNR or DFR grades);

The assessment must be based on the program in which the student was registered during the previous session;

The assessment must show that the student needs at least 24 credits to complete said program.

Students who have been awarded a merit scholarship from the Faculty of Arts may retain it if they change faculties.
