Women's Studies

The undergraduate program at the Institute of Women’s Studies offers students the opportunity to explore the status, experiences and contributions of women in past and present society. It fosters inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches to the study of women through its core courses (code starting with FEM) and through the various courses which examine issues relevant to women from the perspectives of various disciplines. Students will also acquire the theoretical and methodological skills needed to carry out research and intervention work on and with women, and to participate as such in the improvement of women’s status in society.

The training offered by women’s studies provides graduates with the intellectual flexibility and with analytical and research skills that will enhance their employment opportunities in government, in public and private institutions, and in areas such as health, education, labour, law, media and the arts.

Combined with an honours program in a discipline offered by the University, the concentration program in women’s studies provides excellent preparation for graduate studies in one of the twelve disciplines which participates in the collaborative program in women’s studies at the master’s level.
