The Department of Communication offers a baccalaureate in journalism. This is a joint program with Algonquin College (in English) and with La Cité collégiale (in French).

There are two ways to complete the degree requirements:

The first:

Students apply for direct admission to the baccalaureate in journalism program at the University of Ottawa without holding a diploma in journalism from Algonquin College or La Cité collégiale. After successfully completing two years at the University of Ottawa, students apply to Algonquin College or La Cité collégiale to finish their degree. The admission requirements are determined by the University of Ottawa (CGPA of 70 per cent), but the number of students admitted to the program is limited to 25 a year.

The second:

Students are admitted to the journalism program at Algonquin College or La Cité collégiale according to the admission requirements at each institution. After successfully completing the college program, students apply to the University of Ottawa. The University accepts Algonquin College or La Cité collégiale diploma program graduates who have a final grade point average of 3.0 (70%) or higher. There is no limit to the number of Algonquin or Cité collégiale students admitted to the program.
