Human Resource Management

In recent years, organizations have increasingly begun to appreciate the strategic importance of adopting a systematic approach to human resource management (HRM). This has been reflected in the hiring of people with specialized skills in personnel management, labour relations, and organizational development. This has also been reflected in the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPAO's) establishment of a professional designation for human resource practitioners, entitled the “Certified Human Resources Professional” (CHRP).

Accordingly, the purpose of this option is to provide an in-depth knowledge of the three HRM functions that have become most critical in organizations: personnel management, industrial relations and organizational behaviour. This option emphasizes both practical and conceptual skills to enable students to work in all areas of HRM in the private, public, and/or non-profit sectors. In addition, graduates from this option will be well-positioned to succeed in the competitive HR labour market, as the majority of our courses have been accredited by the HRPAO. Thus, successful completion of the HRM option not only enables students to pursue a B. Com. with specialized training in HRM, but it also enables them to simultaneously fulfill the academic requirements of the CHRP designation. For more information about the HRPAO and the CHRP designation, please see www.hrpao.org.
