ALG1020 Cours �l�mentaire intensif d'allemand (3,0,2) 6 cr.
Cours intensif con�u pour les �tudiants qui ne connaissent pas l'allemand et qui souhaitent obtenir en un semestre la comp�tence linguistique normalement acquise en deux semestres. Les �tudiants inscrits � ce cours ne sont pas autoris�s � suivre en m�me temps ALG1901-1902. Cours �quivalent de la Carleton University : (22.120). Intensive Elementary German An intensive course designed to accelerate the acquisition of German. Intended for students with no previous knowledge of German who wish to obtain in one semester the linguistic competence usually acquired in two semesters. This course precludes ALG1901-1902. Equivalent course at Carleton University: (22.120).

Phon�tique, r�gles essentielles de la grammaire et exercices pratiques; conversation; lecture; exercices oraux. Ce cours est destin� aux �tudiants n'ayant aucune (ou � peu pr�s aucune) notion de l'allemand. (Ant�rieurement : ALG 1001). Elementary German I Phonetics, essentials of grammar and practical exercises; conversation;reading and oral practice. This course is intended for students with little or no previous knowledge of German. (Previously: ALG 1001).

Ce cours s'adresse aux �tudiant/e/s de disciplines diverses qui d�sirent acqu�rir une connaissance passive de l'allemand pour �tre en mesure de lire des textes en allemand dans leur discipline. Grammaire de base, vocabulaire, lecture de textes dans le domaine de sp�cialisation de chaque �tudiant/e. Ce cours n'est pas ouvert aux �tudiant/e/s du Programme de concentration allemande. Reading Knowledge in German A course for students from other disciplines who wish to concentrate on acquiring a passive reading knowledge of German relevant to their field of study. Elementary grammar, acquisition of vocabulary, reading of texts in the area of study of each student. This course is not open to students in the German concentration.

Major events that shaped the culture of the German speaking countries until 1945 through history, political developments, literature, and the arts. No knowledge of German required. (Previously: ALG 2103).

ALG2300 Masterpieces of German Literature in Translation (3,0,0) 3 cr.
Readings in German prose, poetry, and drama in translation, by German, Austrian and Swiss authors from different periods. No knowledge of German required. (Previously: ALG 2040).

ALG3980 Litt�rature allemande et bouleversements du 20e si�cle (3,0,0) 3 cr.
La litt�rature allemande de la fin du 19e � la fin du 20e si�cle en tant que reflet de la "r�alit�" et des bouleversements politiques, sociaux et culturels de cette p�riode. Pr�alable: ALG2902 et ALG2300 ou ALG2700 ou permission du d�partement. (Ant�rieurement : ALG 3080). German Literature and the Turmoils of the 20th Century German literature from the end of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century. The main focus of this course is to examine the relationship of literature and "reality" through the political, social, and cultural turmoils of the 20th century. Prerequisite: ALG2902 and ALG2300 ou ALG2700 ou permission of the Department. ALG2902 and ALG2300 ou ALG2700 ou permission of the Department. (Previously: ALG 3080).
