Course descriptions


GNG1100 Engineering Mechanics (3,0,1.5) 4 cr.
Concepts of engineering mechanics. Statics of particles and rigid bodies. Free body diagrams. Simple structures, including trusses, frames and machines. Rectilinear and curvilinear motion. Prerequisite: OAC physics, OAC calculus or equivalent.

GNG1101 Fundamentals of Engineering Computation (3,0,3) 4 cr.
Introduction to computer systems. Problem solving for engineering case studies. Emphasis is on the design of algorithms and their implementation for solving engineering problems using a high level structured language.

GNG1102 Fundamentals of Computer Hardware (1.5,0,1.5) 2 cr.
Basic concepts of computer organization: introduction to logic circuits, machine language, representation of data and assembly language. Virtual machines, interpretation, compilation. Cannot be combined for credit with CSI1101 or ELG1100.

GNG1501 Notions fondamentales du traitement de l'information en g�nie (3,0,3) 4 cr.
Introduction aux syst�mes de traitement de l'information. R�solution de probl�mes li�s � des �tudes de cas en g�nie. L'accent est mis sur la conception d'algorithmes pour r�soudre des probl�mes en g�nie ainsi que leur r�alisation en utilisant un langage de programmation structur�e de haut niveau.

GNG1502 Notions fondamentales de mat�riel des ordinateurs (1.5,0,1.5) 2 cr.
Introduction � la structure des ordinateurs: circuits logiques, langage machines, repr�sentation des donn�es et assembleur. Les machines virtuelles, interpr�tation et compilation. Les cr�dits de GNG1502 ne peuvent pas �tre additionn�s � ceux de CSI1501 ou ELG1500.

Statistical process and quality control techniques in the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing quality. Review of pertinent statistics. Collecting sound data. Exploratory data analysis techniques. Techniques for quality improvement. Theory and applications of variables and attributes control charts. Feedback response for out-of-control situations. Manufacturing capability. Taguchi's contributions to engineering quality. Quality consciousness in the work place. This course is intended for engineers from all disciplines. Prerequisite: Basic course in probability and statistics or permission of instructor.

Basic features of laws and practice relating to contracts, agency, property, water rights, forms of business organizations, sales, insurance, utilities, labour, government regulation of business, negotiable instruments, workers' compensation, liens, bankruptcy, patents, copyrights, trademarks; ethical responsibilities, professional registration; special emphasis on contract documents used on construction work.
