THE1201 Introduction to Theatre (3,0,0) 6 cr.
A lecture course to introduce the concept of theatre as a collaborative art. The basic elements of acting, directing, design, theatre organization, script analysis and history. Some attendance at local performances and direct experience in at least two areas of theatrical practice in productions of the Department. G, C, H.

THE3121 Theatre Production I 3 cr.
A practical course in theatre production involving substantial responsibilities in four areas of theatrical practice other than those undertaken as part of THE1201 or THE1601.Specific requirements regarding procedures for the allocation, execution and evaluation of these production assignments may be obtained from the department. Completion of requirements for the course normally takes more than one session. Students should therefore register for the course at the beginning of the session in which they expect to complete their final production assignment. C, H.

THE3125 The English-Language Tradition of Acting: Realism and the Influence of Stanislavski (6,0,0) 3 cr.
Exploration of the tradition of acting dominated by the theories and methods of konstantin stanislavski and his interpreters. Practical work on scenes and monologues from realistic plays. Development of such techniques as "emotional and sense memory", the analysis of "objectives" and "superobjectives" and the playing of "acting". THE3126 The English-Language Tradition of Acting: Shakespeare and the English Classics (6,0,0) 3 cr.
Exploration of various approaches to acting Shakespeare and other playwrights of the English Renaissance and Restoration. Development of the ability to perform in verse, particularly iambic pentameter; to understand the mentality and physical sense of different periods and styles, and the playing of language.
