Anmol Patel

Anmol Patel is a PhD candidate and Part-time Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa. His doctoral supervisor is Professor Chidi Oguamanam, with Professors Jeremy de Beer and Signa Daum Shanks serving as thesis committee members. His doctoral research examines the participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore through qualitative critical discourse analysis within a framework of critical legal pluralism. His broader research interests include IP law, legal theory, critical legal studies, health law, and bioethics.

Anmol has taught graduate courses in Legal Research Methodology and Contemporary Issues in Law at uOttawa. In Contemporary Issues in Law, he explored the international governance of traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions, and genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge through interdisciplinary and critical approaches. He also coached the uOttawa team for the Copyright Policy Moot 2026, which received awards for Best Policy Briefing and Best Memorandum to the Cabinet. As a Research Fellow with ABS-Canada, he has contributed to research projects led by Professors Oguamanam and de Beer on international governance of traditional knowledge.Prior to joining the University of Ottawa, Anmol was an Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean at IFIM Law School, India, where he taught Contracts, Intellectual Property Rights, Labour Law, and Legal Methods and contributed to academic administration. He also established the institution’s first Intellectual Property Clinic. Earlier, he was a Research Fellow at Karnavati University, India, and a consultant for India with the Law School Admission Council, USA.

He holds an LLM from the University of Toronto and completed his BBA LLB in India as a Silver Medallist. As a law student, he participated in national moot court competitions and secured the runners-up position at the Anand National Moot Court Competition.
