Alex Dumas

Alex Dumas a obtenu son doctorat en kinésiologie (sociologie) de l'Université de Montréal et a poursuivi des études postdoctorales à la Faculté des sciences sociales et politiques de l'Université de Cambridge. Il a enseigné la sociologie de la santé, la gérontologie, la sociologie du sport, l'histoire du sport et les méthodes de recherche qualitatives. Ses recherches portent principalement sur le vieillissement et sur les inégalités sociales de santé. Ses travaux adoptent des méthodes de recherche qualitatives et traitent principalement de la classe sociale, de l’âge et du genre afin de mieux comprendre la variation sociale des pratiques (activités physiques, alimentation, réadaptation).

Ses recherches en sociologie de la santé visent à approfondir les connaissances sur les mécanismes sociaux explicatifs des pratiques en santé chez différents groupes sociaux. Ce secteur de recherche nécessite la collaboration d’équipes multidisciplinaires, formées à la fois d’épidémiologistes et de physiologistes.
