Access to information and privacy

The Access to Information and Privacy Office (AIPO) works to ensure that the University upholds its commitment to the principles of privacy and access to information as set out in Policy 90.

Our services

Some of the activities of the Director, Access to Information and Privacy Office include: providing ongoing advice, guidance, and recommendations; responding to privacy breaches and complaints;  and managing requests for access to information submitted under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Our services include:

Awareness and training
The AIPO provides training on privacy and access to information to members of the University community.

Advisory services
The AIPO provides practical advice to ensure compliance with privacy laws, policies, and best practices.

Privacy breach response
The AIPO manages privacy breaches in accordance with the University’s privacy breach response protocol.

Privacy complaints
The AIPO reviews and investigates privacy complaints related to the University’s collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.

Access to information
The AIPO provides access to general and personal information under FIPPA.

Privacy impact assessment (PIA)
The AIPO conducts PIAS to help identify and manage privacy and related risks arising from new initiatives.
