Time Limits for Completion of Graduate Degree and Diploma Requirements

The time limit to complete graduate diploma or degree requirements remains the same when changing full-time or part-time status.

C-6.1 Graduate diploma

The normal length of full-time enrolment is one to three terms. However, all the diploma requirements must be completed within three years of the date of initial enrolment in the diploma program unless otherwise specified in the regulations for a specific program. 

C-6.2 Master’s 

The normal length of full-time enrolment is two to six terms. However, all master’s degree requirements must be completed within four years of the date of initial enrolment in the master’s program unless otherwise specified in the regulations for a specific program.

C-6.3 Doctoral 

The normal length of full-time enrolment is four to five years. However, doctoral degree requirements must be completed, and the thesis submitted for defence within six years of the date of initial enrolment in the doctoral program, unless otherwise specified in the regulations for a specific program. 

Students initially enrolled in a master’s program who transfer to a doctoral program must complete all the doctoral degree requirements and submit their thesis for defence within seven years of their initial enrolment in the master’s program, unless otherwise specified in the regulations for a specific program.
