MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
Welcome to the Faculty of Medicine. We are proud to be counted among Canada’s top medical schools and to hold the distinction of being the country’s only medical school offering courses in both official languages. Whether you choose to continue your studies in the clinical or research stream, one thing is for sure: our Faculty offers you the chance to study in a world class setting.
Our highly regarded Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) program focuses on developing the key competencies necessary for our students to become leaders in health care delivery. With a committed teaching body that utilizes extensive technology in the classroom, our educational objectives are based on CanMEDS Roles and are delivered using a modern teaching curriculum that provides a balance between directed and independent study. The program spans 147 weeks of instruction (72 weeks of which are devoted to clinical work) and leads to a Doctor of Medicine degree. This past year, our UGME program received its best accreditation results ever, meeting 127 out of the 131 standards. The accreditation bodies praised not only our program, but also our students, describing them as a “highly motivated and engaged student body, which actively participates in the ongoing evaluation and modification of the curriculum.”
Beyond our UGME program, our Post graduate Medical Education (PGME) program offers 61 postgraduate training programs leading to certification by The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). With approximately 830 residents and 170 fellows, our PGME program boasts one of the largest foreign trainee population in the country.
If you wish to pursue a masters or doctoral degree, our MSc and PhD programs offer you a vast and unique blend of research possibilities spanning a total of nine programs including, our new MD/PhD program. You can pursue a career path in our departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience, Epidemiology or Community Medicine.
