Cybersecurity is often discussed in technical terms: protecting data from breaches or ensuring networks remain stable. But this focus fails to capture the lived realities of digital harms. What does it mean for people themselves to be secure in the digital context?

The University of Ottawa Press just published “The Security of Self: A Human-Centric Approach to Cybersecurity, a new interdisciplinary collection co-edited by Dr. Emily Laidlaw and Dr. Florian Martin-Bariteau. The collection invites a rethinking of cybersecurity’s core purpose, shifting the focus from the technical infrastructure to a central goal of protecting people — and society — from harm.

The Common Law Section recently hosted the 18th annual Nelligan Law First-Year Moot Court Competition, a long-standing tradition that gives first-year students an early and exciting introduction to the courtroom.
