Biography
Dr. Amanda Black is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Ottawa and a Clinical Investigator at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She is the Past President of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologist of Canada. She completed her medical training at the University of Western Ontario, University of Ottawa and Queen’s University, and holds a Masters of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. She holds appointments at The Ottawa Hospital and CHEO. She is a recognized as a national and international expert in women's health, with over 400 invited presentations and over 200 publications.
Dr. Black has worked on and developed numerous women's health initiatives during her career, including the National Contraception Awareness Program, the National Compassionate Contraception Program, website and app development, and national and international guidelines. She has provided expertise to Health Canada, StatsCanada, the Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization. She led the National Pharmacare and Universal Contraception Coverage in Canada. In October 2025, she received the FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Women's Award 2025: Recognizing Female Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
