Biography

Dr. Werlang undertook both her medical school and residency training in Brazil, followed by a 4-year fellowship program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Ottawa Hospital, affiliated to the University of Ottawa. She completed her MSc degree in Healthcare Quality and Improvement at Queens’ University in 2021. She is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and currently practicing at The Ottawa Hospital, where she holds an appointment as Assistant Professor, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She has written various book chapters, presented her research in many international conferences, and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Her research and clinical interests centre on improving standardization and quality assurance in obstetrical ultrasound by enhancing education and imaging training in order to positively impact maternal and fetal outcomes. She is the medical lead of Combined Perinatal Diagnostic Rounds, which involve a multidisciplinary team review of diagnostic imaging and plan of antenatal/postnatal management. She is co-author of various departmental quality initiative projects in progress, including safe in-utero transportation of preterm babies to tertiary centres, and management of sepsis in labour and delivery by implementing the MEOWS score tool.
