The Faculty of Social Sciences is launching its first call for applications for the B. Anne Wood Leadership Award, a major bursary valued at a minimum of $10,000. Intended for third-year students enrolled in an Honours bachelor’s program, this award offers a unique opportunity to transform a promising idea into a concrete project.

Marc Lavoie, Emeritus Professor from the Department of Economics, was awarded the J.K. Galbraith Prize by the Progressive Economics Forum at the Canadian Economics Association meetings on May 30, 2025. The prize recognizes his contributions to heterodox economics.

Guillermo Matamoros (PhD Economics, University of Ottawa, 2023) has been awarded the 2024 Joan Robinson Prize by the Review of Political Economy for the best article published by a young scholar. His winning paper, “Are firms’ markups boosting inflation?”, reflects his ongoing work on inflation, income distribution, and economic development.Guille...

Greg Coleman didn’t just study economics — he lived it, questioned it, and used it as a lens to understand the world. Originally from Connecticut, USA, Greg moved to Canada on a French language scholarship and completed an Honours BSocSc in Economics (French Immersion) at the University of Ottawa, graduating with a 9.0 GPA and a strong sense of civic purpose.

Emaad Samsodeen, an undergraduate economics student, has coauthored the article “Assessing Canada’s Policy Responses to Trump’s Tariffs” with Kevin Page of the Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy.  The article appeared in Policy Magazine on April 14, 2025.
