Sandelle Scrimshaw has more than 37 years of experience in the Canadian public service and 25 years of service as a Canadian diplomat. She served with the Department of the Secretary of State and National Museums of Canada before joining the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and then the Department of External Affairs. From 1993 to 1997, she was the Canadian Executive Director at the African Development Bank and, in that capacity, was the first woman to serve on the Board of Directors of this multilateral development bank. In Ottawa, Sandelle held a number of positions at CIDA and what is now Global Affairs Canada (GAC), including Director General, Asia Pacific South and Director General, Africa Bureau. She served as High Commissioner to Barbados, Ghana and South Africa as well as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Canadian Embassy in Paris and Consul General to Monaco. Since retiring from the public service, she has been a consultant and visiting Head of Inspection in the Office of the Inspector General of GAC, Senior Project Executive of the Canada House Consolidation Project in London (UK) and Senior Advisor in the Major Crown Projects Division of GAC for chancery projects in Paris, Tokyo, Mexico, Beijing and New Delhi. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Retired Heads of Mission Association (2012-2019), including two years as President, as well as on the Board of the Canadian International Council – National Capital Branch (2015-2018).
