• Carpentry, maintain woodwork, and general repairs.
• Cutting keys and maintaining approximately 30,000 doors on campus.
• Maintain roughly 100 elevators and chairlifts on campus.
• Maintain and repair all building exteriors.

Electrical

• Install, test and maintain electrical and electronic systems
• Troubleshoot system failures and correct programming issues
• Inspect and maintain lighting, fire alarm and gas detection systems
• Maintain central monitoring equipment including panels, relays and sensors
• Verify wiring diagrams, drawings and manuals for accurate installations
• Repair or replace mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic components
• Respond to electrical service requests across campus

Instrumentation

• Monitor and control campus ventilation, heating and cooling systems
• Track performance data from nearly 140,000 control points
• Support automation of critical equipment with the Power Plant
• Maintain over 5,000 graphical user interfaces and create new ones for users
• Contribute to energy-reduction initiatives through automation
• Maintain network infrastructure and modernize mechanical systems
• Verify and maintain laboratory fume hoods
• Respond to service requests from the campus community

Preventative maintenance program

• Extend equipment life through scheduled inspection and servicing
• Improve performance with predictive and preventative maintenance
• Maintain the functional and visual quality of campus spaces
• Replace, adjust and overhaul equipment components at planned intervals

Grounds

• Maintain landscaping, green spaces and overall campus appearance year-round
• Monitor and protect tree health across campus
• Repair and maintain roads, sidewalks and other outdoor traffic areas
• Manage outdoor waste, recycling and site furniture (benches, tables, ashtrays, bike racks, etc.)
• Snow Removal:
  • Clear roads, parking lots, sidewalks, terraces, doorways, ramps and high-priority areas
  • Target a safely cleared campus by 7 a.m., weather permitting
  • Prioritize areas based on established snow-removal categories
  • Coordinate road and sidewalk crews to limit snowbanks
  • Perform full clearing overnight and transport accumulated snow to the Power Plant melter
  • Adjust operations depending on temperature to limit ice buildup
  • Deploy dedicated crews for Category 1 areas starting at 4 a.m., with evening coverage for residences and classroom buildings

Transportation

• Move equipment and materials across main campus, 200 Lees and the Alta Vista campus
• Transport event equipment and support event setup
• Relocate office furniture, appliances, lab and research equipment
• Safely transport sensitive materials, including laboratory samples

• Maintain the University’s sewers, ventilation systems and steam, water and chill water distribution networks. (“Chill water,” an alternative to traditional air conditioning, involves cold water being used to chill the air inside pipes, which then pump cool air across campus!)
• Manage the Preventative Maintenance Program for the campus HVAC systems as well as the mechanical elements of uOttawa’s infrastructure.
• Ensure the continuity of operations in the event of an emergency or breakdown.

• Ensure the preventative and corrective maintenance of uOttawa's power plant.
• Operate the plant’s central monitoring system, generators, and heating and cooling systems.
• Ensure a suitable air quality and comfortable ambient environment in campus facilities.
• Manage and reduce the campus’ energy consumption.
• Monitor under 30 000 control points and alarms and take corrective action when required.
• Investigate all fire alarms and assist the fire department with fire alarm panels.
• Monitor lab equipment and fume hoods.
• Monitor and perform routine checks on equipment at the sports complex, pool and other locations, including the skating rinks and Lees dome.
• Perform water treatment tests and treat as needed.
