The Centre for Law, Technology and Society is delighted to announce that CLTS Faculty member Dr. Teresa Scassa just published Digital Commerce in Canada with LexisNexis Canada.

Faculty member Dr. Teresa Scassa has been appointed Chair of the Government of Canada’s new Canadian Statistics Advisory Council. The Council will advise the Chief Statistician and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development on matters concerning the overall quality of the national statistical system, including the relevance, accuracy, accessibility and timeliness of its data.

Faculty members Ian Kerr and Teresa Scassa have been appointed to the Government of Canada’s new Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence, joining a prestigious group of leading Canadian researchers and business executives to provide advice on how Canada can become a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) advancements while ensuring that AI policy and practice reflect Canadian values.

Professor Teresa Scassa just published Law and the “Sharing Economy”: Regulating Online Market Platforms, a new book co-edited by Derek McKee of the Université de Montréal and Finn Makela of the Université de Sherbrooke.

Professor Teresa Scassa has been awarded the University of Ottawa Library’s 2018 Open Scholarship Award, which recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in supporting and practicing open scholarship. Professor Scassa is one of two winners this year; Professor Kelly Cobey of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute is the other winner.

Professor Teresa Scassa earned Insight Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and will delve into the underdeveloped area of online data ownership to examine who can control and reuse publicly accessible online data.

On February 23rd, Dr. Teresa Scassa and Dr. Florian Martin-Bariteau appeared before the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.
