Omar began his career with BMO in 2006. Since then, he has held increasingly senior leadership positions. In July 2015, he was named regional vice president, personal banking and small business, for Ottawa/Gatineau.
Omar has been strong supporter of the University, backing several initiatives. This includes Startup Garage, which has been offered in partnership with the Entrepreneurship Hub since 2018. He also works with the Career Centre at the Telfer School of Management to hire talent.
Omar is also actively involved in the Ottawa community. He has served on boards for organizations including the Wellington West Business Improvement Area and the Orléans Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the steering committee of United Way / EARN (Employment Accessibility Resource Network), a group focused on workplace accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Another volunteer activity near and dear to Omar’s heart is support of the military community and military families. He is a friend of the Governor General’s Foot Guards. As well, he has co-chaired the BMO-sponsored Canada Army Run since its inception and is a founding member and co-chair of the BMO-sponsored Navy Bike Ride.
Omar holds an Executive MBA from Queens University Smith School of Business and a master’s in political science. Prior to joining BMO, he taught social sciences and international affairs.
