André Picard is the health columnist at The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of six books, including “Neglected No More: The Urgent Need To Improve The Lives of Canada’s Elders” and “The Gift of Death: Confronting Canada’s Tainted Blood Tragedy.”

He has received much acclaim for his writing and dedication to improving health care, including the Michener Prize for Meritorious Public Service Journalism, the National Newspaper Award as Canada’s top newspaper columnist, and the Sandford Fleming Medal for Excellence in Science Communication.

André’s work has also been recognized by a number of health advocacy groups, including being named Canada’s first “Public Health Hero” by the Canadian Public Health Association, and as a “Champion of Mental Health” by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health.

André is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honorary doctorates from seven universities, including the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto.
