Sally J. Daub graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in chemical engineering in 1998 before going on to earn a law degree from Dalhousie University. She began her career as a patent attorney at Smart & Biggar, a Toronto law firm. She then moved to Nortel Networks, where she specialized in IP licensing, strategy, and corporate development. In 1996, she joined ATI Technologies as general patent counsel before being named vice president and chief legal counsel in 2000. Then in 2001, she co-founded ViXS Systems, and under her leadership, ViXS grew from a pioneering start-up to a leading provider of media processing semiconductor technologies.
Sally Daub is a prominent advocate for both public and industry initiatives, having served as Chair of the Small Business Agency of Ontario (SBAO) and currently serving on the board of both ITAC (Information Technology Association of Canada) and the GSA (Global Semiconductor Association). She formerly chaired the board of Morega Systems Inc. and today sits on the board of HydroOne and on the Consumer Electronics Association Board of Industry Leaders. In November 2014, the Women's Executive Network named Sally Daub as one of Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner, the fourth time she received the honour. She has also been recognized as RBC’s “Women of Influence - Trailblazer”, and one of PROFIT Magazine’s “Top 100 Women Entrepreneurs”. She maintains her status as a registered patent and trademark attorney in Canada and the U.S., where she is a sought-after contributor to industry panels, television programs and publications.
Yet despite her numerous responsibilities, Sally Daub maintains a keen interest in the University of Ottawa. In 2011, she won the Faculty of Engineering Alumni Award of Excellence, and her determination continues to serve as an inspiration for budding engineers and entrepreneurs alike.
