A business visionary with a long track record of success, Louis Gagnon is the chief executive officer of Intact Financial Corporation’s Canadian operations. Since joining its predecessor in 2007, he has helped build the values-based foundation that has driven Intact’s transformation into a Canadian champion and international player.
Louis lives the values that define Intact: integrity, respect, customer-driven, excellence, and generosity. Passionate about education, he continues to support the University of Montreal, where he earned his BA in economic science, and the University of Ottawa, where he earned his MBA. He also serves as co-chair of the Université de Montreal’s Brave the Way campaign, working hard to help the university meets its ambitious objective of raising $1 billion.
Louis also championed the creation of the Intact Health Resilience Initiative, which brought together experts from the Université de Montréal and Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine to improve access to diagnosis, management and treatment of infectious diseases in vulnerable populations. He also contributed to the creation of the multidisciplinary HORizon course and scholarship.
Louis has supported United Way for over 30 years. He spearheads Intact’s annual Generosity in Action employee campaign, inspiring employees to give back and live Intact’s value of generosity in their communities.
As a member of the University of Ottawa’s Telfer’s Strategic Leadership Cabinet, he helped shape work with the business community and public sector, and helped build Intact’s partnership with Telfer, which includes a $2 million gift that supports research at the Triple I Lab.
“Be kind and take care of people” has been Louis’ personal North star throughout his career. He hopes to inspire a similar approach to business in the business leaders of tomorrow.
