Roberta L. Jamieson is the former president and CEO of lndspire, Canada’s largest Indigenous charity. She is a Mohawk whose many achievements include being the first First Nations woman in Canada to earn a law degree, the first woman Ombudsman of Ontario and the first woman elected Chief of Six Nations of the Grand River.
A director at RBC as well as at Deloitte Canada and Deloitte Chile, Ms. Jamieson has long been recognized as a visionary member of corporate boards, with an expertise in environmental, social and governance criteria. At RBC, she sits on the Risk and Governance committees, at Deloitte Canada and Deloitte Chile, she sits on the Governance and Succession Committee; the Strategy, Transformation and Brand Committee; and the Quality Committee. She has also served on the inaugural G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council during Canada’s G7 presidency.
As president of lndspire, Ms. Jamieson oversaw an eightfold increase in bursaries and scholarships, and Charity Intelligence Canada named lndspire one of the 10 Canadian charities with the highest impact. At lndspire, Ms. Jamieson also launched the first National Gathering for Indigenous Education and the lndspire Research Knowledge Nest, which publishes the organization’s research and data.
Ms. Jamieson has also continued her involvement in philanthropy at the Prosperity Project and as a board member of the Rideau Hall Foundation, where she co-chairs a national initiative to promote the graduation of Indigenous teachers.
Ms. Jamieson has received 31 honorary degrees, been designated an Indigenous Peoples’ Counsel by the Indigenous Bar Association, been inducted into the Women’s Executive Network Hall of Fame, received the Indigenous Women in Leadership Award by the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business and has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
