An emergency is no time for guesswork.
Alertus displays alerts directly on your computer screen if there’s an emergency.
Make sure the Alertus icon appears on your taskbar. If it’s not there, contact IT for assistance.
SecurUO is uOttawa’s safety app. It sends emergency alerts directly to your phone.
Enable notifications so you can receive alerts when an emergency happens. To do this, check your device settings.
You can also learn how to set up WorkAlone, a feature that checks in with you and contacts your designated emergency contact if you don’t respond.
Your device can limit SecurUO’s functions after a period of inactivity.
Don’t rely on a single notification method. Using multiple channels increases your chances of receiving important emergency information.
Register through the Emergency Alerts Portal to receive alerts by SMS text message and at a personal or alternative email address.
Note: Active uOttawa students and employees already receive emergency alerts at their University email address. There is no need to register your individual @uOttawa.ca email address.
Language selection: Emergency alerts are fully bilingual. The subscription portal opens in English by default. To continue in French, select French (Canada) from the language menu in the top-right corner of the page.
When an alert is triggered, the University shares official information and guidance through a variety of channels, depending on the situation.
Between 11 a.m. and noon, we'll be fully testing all channels of the emergency alert system.
