Through this chair, Professor Gaudet will further explore an issue at the heart of our societies: the future of democracy and youth civic participation in the Canadian Francophonie.
Her research will take a comparative approach to Francophone realities in the majority context of Quebec and minority settings elsewhere in Canada. In particular, she will examine how artistic and cultural practices can serve as third spaces for democratic citizenship education.
By exploring the spaces and practices through which young people develop their civic engagement, her research will contribute to a deeper understanding of the changing nature of democratic participation within Francophone communities across Canada. Her appointment also recognizes the originality of her research project, her exceptional publication record and the breadth of her network of collaborators.
Francophone research excellence at FSS
This appointment is part of a significant expansion of the College of Research Chairs on the Francophone World, which announced four new research chairs, the renewal of two existing chairs and the establishment of its first associated chair at Saint Paul University.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is also proud to recognize the renewal of two chairs held by FSS researchers:
- the Research Chair in International Francophonie on Cultural Heritage Policies, held by Professor Jonathan Paquette;
- the Research Chair in International Francophonie on Political Aspirations and Movements in Francophone Africa, held by Professor Marie-Eve Desrosiers.
These renewals reflect the excellence of their work and their contributions to advancing Francophone research.
Professor Gaudet’s appointment, together with the renewal of the chairs held by Professors Paquette and Desrosiers, highlights the diversity and reach of research conducted at the Faculty of Social Sciences on Francophone realities in Canada and around the world.
The faculty warmly congratulates Professor Stéphanie Gaudet on her new research chair, as well as Professors Jonathan Paquette and Marie-Eve Desrosiers on the renewal of their chairs.
