While inspecting a flooring renovation project in Tabaret Hall, Yassine noticed that hazardous waste was not being managed in accordance with the University's Hazardous Materials Management Program. Recognizing the potential risk, Yassine immediately reported the issue to the appropriate supervisor, ensuring prompt corrective action. The materials were safely removed and disposed of, and the contractor received a non-compliance notice. The incident was also formally documented to help prevent similar occurrences.
This action reflects Yassine’s strong attention to detail, knowledge of safety requirements and willingness to speak up when something doesn’t look right. His vigilance helped minimize potential exposure risk and maintained a safe environment for staff, students, visitors and contractors.
Colleagues also note that Yassine consistently plays an active role in promoting health and safety in his work. As senior co-ordinator, physical resources, he regularly demonstrates leadership by identifying hazards, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and encouraging accountability among contractors and project teams.
