Imagined Elsewhere

Event Details :

Can you experience the same thing twice? Some people think we can’t. Others argue that if we were to experience our whole lives exactly the same, down to the smallest detail, it would have to be for a greater purpose. Unless we have some supernatural power, we can’t confirm this. All we can do is trust our eyes and rely on our senses to confirm what our truth is as we make it up from our lived experiences.

With this three-week project, we were prompted to communicate and respond to a place, whether metaphorical or physical. After all, whatever environment we were born in, or end up moving to, has a big impact on us.

In our exhibition, you’ll find answers from artists who grounded their work in home, fantastical settings, places from our past that are undergoing irreversible changes, or life situations that seem like they have put a filter over everything that surrounds us. As we explore these questions and answers, you’ll be able to see a broad range of materials and formal solutions emerging from each artist’s unique and personal approach to the assignment.
