Description: Three Beginnings

A concert of dramatic expression, lyrical beauty, and orchestral brilliance, Three Beginnings brings together three distinctive works from the orchestral repertoire.

Beethoven’s Egmont Overture opens the program with powerful drama and a stirring affirmation of freedom. The spotlight then turns to Samuel Lucas, one of the winners of the 2025 Concerto Competition, performing Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, a captivating work that blends lyrical melodies, jazz influences, and rhythmic vitality. The program concludes with Haydn’s Symphony No. 104, “London,” his final symphony, celebrated for its spirited energy, elegance, and memorable melodies.

Under the baton of orchestra conductor Dinuk Wijeratne, the concert also features student conductor Alireza Tarviji, highlighting the artistry and talent emerging from the School of Music. Together, these performances celebrate musical discovery and the enduring richness of the orchestral tradition.
