What are your plans for September?
In September, I plan to start working, ideally in another province so I can broaden my horizons and discover more of Canada. Since I have not really had the opportunity to explore the country much yet, I would love to experience a new environment, meet new people and continue growing both personally and professionally through that experience.
How did your time at the University of Ottawa shape you?
My time at the University of Ottawa taught me resilience and helped me become more adaptable. I learned that not everything can be controlled, and sometimes things do not go according to plan but often, those unexpected outcomes end up being the best ones.
University also helped me open up more to others and realize that I had people around me who genuinely cared about me and whom I could always count on. That sense of community and support is something I will always carry with me. Most importantly, it helped me become more involved with the Muslim community.

Did anyone give you significant support throughout your university studies?
Throughout my university years, I was incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by people who supported, encouraged and guided me. My parents, who made it possible for me to have this degree, my sister and my friends especially played a huge role in my experience. People like Sanata, Maty, Chaymaa, Yasmina, Leila, Arihanatou, Sokhna and Safiatou, and honestly, the list could go on for a long time.
I am so grateful to have met such amazing people because, without them, university would have felt a lot more stressful and a lot less enjoyable. Their presence truly made all the difference and I’m grateful for them.
What’s your favourite memory from your time at uOttawa?
That is such a difficult question because I have so many memorable moments from my time at uOttawa. If I had to choose, one of my favourite memories would definitely be our “study sessions” after uOMSA (uOttawa Muslim Students Association) Roots sessions, where we somehow managed to do everything except study. Another favourite memory would be all the vlogs I filmed with my friends throughout university.
Looking back at those moments now always makes me smile because they captured so much laughter, friendship and spontaneity.
Do you have any advice for students who will start university in the fall?
My biggest advice would be to give your best from the very beginning, especially during first year. It is an important time academically, but it is also important not to let yourself become overwhelmed.
Learning how to organize your time and balance your studies with your personal life makes a huge difference. Do not be afraid to approach people in class, ask questions or speak to your professors when something is unclear. If you notice students who seem to understand the material well, talk to them too. Sometimes that is exactly how friendships begin and how you get to understand your courses more.
I would also strongly encourage students to apply for scholarships and bursaries. A lot of people overlook them, but they can really help financially, and there are many opportunities available through uoZone.
Most importantly, enjoy the experience. University goes by faster than you think. Take pictures, create memories, and, especially, enjoy the fall term. It is honestly one of the best times on campus.
