Each year, the Faculty of Engineering celebrates the achievements of its exceptional alumni by presenting three awards: the Alumni Award of Excellence, the Young Alumni Award, and the Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year.

Our awards

The awards are presented to alumni of the Faculty of Engineering whose professional achievements are exceptional or who have made noteworthy contributions to society through their:  

  • public sector or community engagement 
  • professional excellence 
  • support to the University, Faculty or peers after graduation.

Alumni Award of Excellence

This award is given to a graduate of the Faculty who has excelled professionally or who has made exceptional contributions to their industry, their community or society at large.

Young Alumni Award

This award highlights a person’s significant contributions to their field of endeavour, whether in terms of professional achievement or service to the community. The recipient must be under 40 years of age and an inspiration to future engineers.
Entrepreneurship icon

Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year

This award honours a Faculty of Engineering graduate who has achieved success as an entrepreneur over the past year. National and international awards will be taken into consideration.

Eligibility criteria 

  • Nominees must hold a degree from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ottawa. 

  • Posthumous nominations will not be considered. 

  • Current employees of the University of Ottawa are not eligible. 

  • Individuals may nominate themselves. 

Selection process 

Members of the Faculty’s alumni community, as well as teaching or administrative personnel from the Faculty, may submit nominations. Nominations will be presented to the Faculty’s Executive Committee.  

The Faculty’s Executive Committee will act as the alumni awards committee and select the recipients. The Committee may decline to select a recipient in any year in which it finds that none of the nominees meet the criteria. 

The Faculty will present a plaque to each award recipient. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in which each award recipient may be called upon to present their achievements. 

Important 

It is expected that award recipients will attend the awards ceremony. 

Award recipients agree to participate in promotional activities related to the award, such as video interviews, photos, interviews for press and alumni community publications.
