Biography

Prof. Hao Tang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on low-carbon combustion and propulsion, with an emphasis on developing and applying advanced laser diagnostics to understand, model, and control complex reacting flows. He investigates turbulence–chemistry interaction, flame stabilization, and pollutant formation in practical combustors, supporting technologies relevant to next-generation gas turbines and propulsion systems.

Before joining uOttawa, Prof. Tang was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

Prof. Tang is committed to inclusive, hands-on training and mentoring of students and trainees. At uOttawa, he is establishing a research group that bridges fundamental combustion science with deployable solutions for clean energy and advanced propulsion.
