[Ottawa, June 9, 2023] – MakerLaunch, the startup accelerator at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ottawa, is excited to announce the inclusion of two forward-thinking sustainable technology companies, Spaceium and Enurgen, in its 2023 cohort. These startups will benefit from comprehensive resources, funding, mentorship, prototyping facilities and networking opportunities to bring their products and services to market.

Spaceium, a space travel infrastructure startup, and Enurgen, an emerging provider of energy software solutions, were selected for their ambitious goals. MakerLaunch recognizes the immense potential of both to push the boundaries of technology and create market solutions that match with the program’s mission of commercializing technology.

Spaceium and Enurgen will gain access to resources including non-dilutive funding, dedicated dry lab and office space, prototyping tools, industry-specific mentorship and guidance from seasoned entrepreneurs. MakerLaunch also facilitates strategic partnerships and connections with investors, venture capitalists and industry leaders.

Brion Raffoul LLP, one of Ottawa’s leading patent and intellectual property law firms, returns as a corporate partner to provide counsel and industry expertise in developing IP strategies for each startup. The firm has been a valuable resource to MakerLaunch since the latter’s inception in 2019.

Spaceium is developing in-space service station systems to enable sustainable cryogenic refuelling and parts replacement for satellites, rockets and orbital transfer vehicles. The company's innovation lies in its modular approach and commitment to making space more accessible, reducing space waste and opening new possibilities for scientific research and space travel.

Enurgen specializes in energy solutions and aims to revolutionize the power systems sector. With technology backed by extensive research, Enurgen’s software accelerates the adoption of distributed energy resources in modern electric grids and improves solar yields with cell-to-system-level bifacial modelling software. The company’s mission fits with the global transition to more efficient, sustainable energy systems.

MakerLaunch remains committed to a supportive and collaborative ecosystem that enables entrepreneurs to thrive. The two companies are poised to make significant contributions to their respective industries, and their inclusion in the MakerLaunch accelerator program at uOttawa marks an important milestone in their entrepreneurial journeys.
