The second component is paid to the student in various forms including teaching assistantship positions (Canadian Union of Public Employees, CUPE) such as Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor, Tutor, Corrector/(Marker) and Proctor, or Research Assistant (RA) (CUPE) or Teaching Contracts (Association of Part-Time of the University of Ottawa, APTPUO) any other position funded through the Faculty’s operational funds (i.e., simulated patients)or bursaries funded through professors’ research grants or the Faculty’s operational funds, as long as you are registered full-time, available to work in Ottawa, have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), and a Canadian bank account, for the duration of the scholarship.
*The following are excluded: students registered in the Doctorate of Philosophy - Distance Option in Nursing or in the Doctorate of Philosophy – Distance Option in Rehabilitation Sciences do not get the second component. Since these students do not receive the second component of the admission scholarship, their access to teaching assistantships is very limited, as these positions are assigned in priority to those who receive the second component.
Students who receive a scholarship from an external source (e.g., CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, OGS, FRQ, CSC), will continue to receive the first component of the Admission Scholarship. However, the total value of the second component offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences will be reduced accordingly for the period of validity of the external scholarship.
