Alex Ikejiani
Biography
Alex Ikejiani is the Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of the Province of Nova Scotia. In that capacity he is responsible for the administration of the province's justice system, leading a department whose work spans corrections, the courts, public safety, legal services, and accessibility.
He is an environmental lawyer who previously served in the Business/Regulatory Portfolio with the Department of Justice Canada. Called to the bar in 1998, he has built a practice focused primarily on environmental, regulatory, oceans, and resource management law. Mr. Ikejiani has drafted federal legislation and worked on several regulatory initiatives, and in that capacity, he became well known for his expertise in assessing risk and solving complex issues with government and industry.
Since 2003, Mr. Ikejiani has led a series of lectures across several disciplines at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law, the Institute of the Environment, and the Telfer School of Management. These lectures cover topics that include sustainable development, science and the law, and corporate risk and liability. Over nearly a decade of service on corporate boards and committees, he developed a deep, practical insight into how organizations govern themselves, which he has since brought into the classroom and guest lectures on corporate governance.
His education includes a degree in Political Science from the University of Manitoba (1994) and a law degree from Dalhousie Law School (1997). He is a practising member of the Law Society of Ontario and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
