About the book

Published in 2013, Braiding Sweetgrass is a beautifully crafted collection of essays exploring plants & other living beings, reciprocity & responsibility, and our connection to the Earth. Kimmerer encourages readers to envision scientific thinking in a way that transcends conventional approaches, to “stare too long at the world with science eyes [and] see an afterimage of traditional knowledge.” The book weaves together diverse themes such as botany, ecology, Indigenous science and culture, environmental conservation, sustainability, and more.

Copies of the book are available at the Morisset and the Brian Dickson libraries, on campus, or at the Ottawa Public Library.

If you’d like to purchase a physical copy, we encourage you to consider supporting a local bookseller.
