Biography

Neha Chugh is an instructor for the Intensive Trial Advocacy in the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law. She is also a visiting professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences in the Criminology Department, where she teaches an upper year seminar and introductory classes. In recent years, Neha has taught at St. Lawrence College, and for the Iohahiio Akwesasne Education and Training Institute. 

Neha graduated from the University of Waterloo with honours degrees in Sociology and Social Work. She went on to complete a Masters of Science from the University of Guelph in Planning and Development, with a focus on community vulnerability and resilience. Neha went Osgoode Hall Law School(JD 2010, LLM 2025), and is now a PhD candidate at Concordia University, studying therapeutic justice initiatives in rural communities.

Neha began her career in community development policy with the federal government. In 2011, after her call to the bar, she joined private practice as a criminal defence lawyer in Ottawa where she worked for two years before starting Chugh Law Professional Corporation in Cornwall, Ontario. 

Neha is a prosecutor for the Akwesasne Mohawk Court, and is the Hearings Officer for the Town of Cobourg, the Municipality of Brighton and the City of Cornwall. She is also a Bencher with the Law Society of Ontario and is a member of the discipline tribunal.

She has conducted trials and appeals at most levels of court in Ontario and has appeared as counsel for the Intervener Barbra Schlifer Clinic and the Intervener the Akwesasne Justice Department, at the Supreme Court of Canada. 

Neha had previously served on a number of non-profit community boards in the City of Cornwall, as well as being a co-editor for the Criminal Lawyers Association’s  For the Defence magazine. She is widely published in the areas of family law, criminal law, and practice management.
