Eric Granger is a criminal defence lawyer who represents clients on both criminal trials and appeals, having defended innumerable criminal trials before the Ottawa courts and throughout Eastern Ontario and having argued appeals at all levels of Ontario courts and before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Eric has been a part-time professor in the Common Law Section since 2015 and has taught both trial advocacy and appellate advocacy.
Eric received his LL.B. (Magna Cum Laude) from the Common Law Program at the University of Ottawa in 2004 after receiving his B.Arts Sc. (Summa Cum Laude) with a minor in biology from the Arts & Science Program at McMaster University in 2001. Eric has spent his entire career in Ottawa, having articled for Greenspon, Brown & Associates after graduating, and continued practicing with Lawrence Greenspon and Trevor Brown for over 12 years after his call to the bar, practicing a combination of criminal law, administrative and regulatory law, and civil litigation closely linked to criminal matters. Since Trevor Brown's appointment as a judge in 2017, the firm has been renamed as Greenspon, Granger, Hill, where Eric now practices in association with Lawrence Greenspon and Tina Hill.
Eric has participated on the boards of a number of organizations in the legal community including the Collaborative Justice Program, the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, and the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, and Eric is regularly asked to write or speak on criminal law and the law of evidence at conferences and before groups of lawyers, law students, and the judiciary.
