Congratulations to alum François Baril, (LLB ’96), who has been awarded the Law Society of Ontario Medal.

Baril, who graduated magna cum laude from the Faculty, is a bilingual partner at Gowling WLG in Ottawa. He is also a well-known expert in health law and language rights.

He champions the interests of Franco-Ontarians, including by serving on the board of L'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario (AJEFO) for over 10 years, and on the board of the Vanier Community Services Centre, actively working toward making Ottawa a bilingual city.

Baril is also a part-time professor in the Common Law Section, where he teaches competition law.

The Law Society Medal is given to lawyers who have made significant contributions to the profession, whether in practice, in academia, or in some other professional capacity, so long as their service meets the highest standards of the legal profession.
