Biography

Alouss Willy Doumbia holds an LL.M. from the University of Ottawa and a Master 2 from Aix-Marseille University (France), with a specialization in public international law. He also completed the summer session in public international law at The Hague Academy of International Law in 2025. Since September 2024, he has been a doctoral candidate in international law at the University of Ottawa, under the supervision of Professor Geneviève Dufour, and a researcher with the Research Chair in Sustainable, Responsible and Inclusive Trade Law.

His research focuses on the environmental and social normative power of the European Union, through the instruments by which it conditions access to its market (the carbon border adjustment mechanism, the deforestation regulation, and the corporate sustainability due diligence directive) and their effects on developing countries, and particularly the States of sub-Saharan Africa. In parallel, he conducts research on customs tariffs, the carbon border adjustment mechanism, and due diligence.

He also serves as a teaching and research assistant at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, notably for Professors Geneviève Dufour and Gabrielle Marceau. He coordinated the Centre for Environmental Law and Global Sustainability (CELGS) in 2025-2026 and has taken part in several international conferences, including COP30 in Belém, as an observer for the University of Ottawa and a member of the Canadian delegation. He is furthermore the Francophone Co-President of the Graduate Studies in Law Student Association (GSLEDD) for 2025-2026.
