Professors Geist and Salyzyn were shortlisted earlier this year in different categories. Professor Geist was shortlisted in the Government / Non-profits / Associations category, while Professor Salyzyn was recognized in the Changemakers category. Both were ultimately selected among the 25 honourees.
The annual Canadian Lawyer honours recognize legal professionals whose work has made a meaningful impact on Canada’s legal landscape over the past 18 months.
Professor Geist is one of Canada’s leading voices on law and technology. His internationally recognized work in digital policy, intellectual property, privacy and internet governance has helped shape public policy and public debate through research, advocacy, media commentary and engagement with governments and civil society. Professor Geist is a Full Professor in the Common Law Section and a member of the Centre for Law, Technology and Society. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law.
Professor Salyzyn is widely respected for her research and public engagement in legal ethics, professional regulation, access to justice and the future of legal services. Her scholarship and leadership have helped advance important conversations about how the legal profession can respond to changing expectations, emerging technologies and evolving approaches to access to justice. A faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, Professor Salyzyn is an Associate Professor at the Common Law Section and holds the Dean’s Research Professorship in Technology and Justice Futures.
Their inclusion in the 2026 Top 25 reflects the breadth and impact of their work, from shaping the future of the legal profession to influencing policy and public understanding of some of the most pressing legal issues facing Canadians.
