Dr. Carolyn Melro is a non‑Indigenous scholar whose work centers on Indigenous youth mental health and is grounded in relational, community‑driven approaches to wellness. Her scholarship advances Indigenous‑centered mental health systems through services and supports co‑developed with youth, families, and community partners, emphasizing trust‑building, meaningful youth engagement, and learning health systems that respond to community priorities. Her expertise lies in translating complex Indigenous health concepts into accessible models, tools, and training that strengthen culturally and contextually grounded practice, policy, and health professions education. She works alongside Indigenous communities across multiple regions to co‑create resources that honour cultural, historical, and contextual realities, and to evaluate educational and system‑level initiatives that advance Indigenous‑led priorities and deepen structural competency among decision‑makers, practitioners, and learners.

Her research program foregrounds collaborative knowledge creation, Indigenous epistemologies, and strengths‑based approaches to mental health and wellness. Across curriculum development, conceptual model building, and community‑engaged research, Dr. Melro is committed to equity, relational accountability, and the transformation of mental health services and systems in partnership with Indigenous leaders, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and youth.
