Biography
Dr. Marta Berrio is a cardiac, transplant, and clinical research-trained anesthesiologist. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (DAPM) at the University of Ottawa and a Clinician Investigator at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), certified in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) by the American College of Chest Physicians, and recognized as a POCUS Local Mentor by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Berrio leads the PoCUS Rounds at DAPM, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, and serves as an editorial board member at the PubMed-indexed POCUS Journal. She is also a member of the Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee at the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society. Dr. Berrio is passionate about education and research in PoCUS, resuscitative TEE, and Perioperative Medicine, with a particular interest in frailty and prehabilitation in major surgery to develop strategies to improve patient-centered outcomes for older adults through the Aging Innovation in Perioperative Medicine & Surgery (AIMS) Research Group.
Her collaborative research has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), The Ottawa Hospital Academic Medical Organization (TOHAMO), and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).
