Dr. Cody Church is a clinical medical physicist that is responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of radiation therapy generally in the SABR/SBRT setting. This responsibility includes overseeing the use of ancillary equipment (immobilization systems) and an advanced treatment machine (CyberKnife) to create complex radiation dose distributions to spare nearby healthy tissues. His graduate work focused on augmenting the utility of a C-arm medical linear accelerators to improve its stereotactic capabilities with dynamic movements of all axes during treatment.
Dr. Church’s research involves investigating the use of deep learning and artificial intelligence for automation tasks within radiation therapy including auto-contouring and automated treatment planning, analyzing the relationship between machine performance and radiation therapy treatment plan complexity, improving in-vivo dosimetry assessments for the purposes of SABR/SBRT patient-specific quality assurance and investigating radiation therapy treatment plan robustness through control point-specific plan analysis.
