UNESCO World Heritage: Anticosti, a new jewel of humanity

Anticosti has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since September 2023 as the world's premier natural laboratory for the study of fossils and sedimentary layers from the first mass extinction of life at the end of the Ordovician period, approximately 444 million years ago. Its inscription stems from an unprecedented mobilization to protect this exceptional island.
