Emily Andrew, senior editor at McGill-Queen’s University Press, will be holding a book publishing seminar that consists of a 45-minute presentation followed by a Q&A. All faculty and advanced PhD students are welcome to attend.

The talk will focus on scholarly book publishing in the humanities and social sciences. It will provide an opportunity to learn about the process of publishing with a university press in North America. Topics of discussion include:

  • how to locate the appropriate publisher for your work
  • how to prepare an attractive prospectus
  • how to turn your thesis into a book
  • the peer review process
  • financial realities of scholarly publishing
  • Open Access and new digital horizons
  • participating in the marketing and promotion of your book

EMILY ANDREW has worked as an editor for over 25 years, at all three large Canadian university presses as well as at Cornell University Press. She has also worked in commercial publishing, as well as at a non-fiction literary agency. Throughout her publishing career Emily has acquired manuscripts in a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, spanning the most abstract of literary studies to quantitative political science.
